  1. Soak toor dal for 2 hours. Transfer it to a pressure cooker and add cubed tomatoes, green chillies,ginger garlic crushed..
  2. Add red chilli and turmeric powder. Add water and pressure cook for 2 whistles..
  3. When dal is done mash it woth a masher. Add soaked tamarind..
  4. Switch on the gas and add the tamarind water to dal.(you can adjust the sourness as per your taste,some likes sour and some don't. I have added less quantity). To this add few curry leaves..
  5. Add the green chillies and coriander leaves chopped. Stir nicely and let it boil. At this point add the required salt..
  6. Adjust water, I have added 1 more cup of water(adjust consistency as per your preference). let it boil for 5 mins or till the raw taste of tamarind goes..
  7. For tadka take oil in a vessel and when hot add the mustard seeds and when it crackle add the remaining ingredients..
  8. Add all the tadka ingredients and let it fry. pour over the dal..
  9. Hyderabadi khatti dal is ready to enjoy.
