Instructions to make Toor dal:

  1. Firstly in a pressure cooker take 1 cup toor dal and 2 cup water..
  2. Pressure cook for 5 whistles or till dal gets cooked completely..
  3. Now in another kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee splutter 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp jeera, 1 dried red chilli, few curry leaves and a pinch of hing..
  4. Add in 1 onion followed by 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and 1 green chilli. saute well..
  5. Further add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder and ½ tsp coriander powder. saute on low flame..
  6. Additionally add 2 tomatoes and saute till it turns soft and mushy..
  7. Now whisk the cooked dal to smooth consistency..
  8. Add the cooked dal along with 1 tsp salt. mix well..
  9. Further add required water and adjust the consistency..
  10. Simmer for 5 minutes or till dal turns smooth and absorbs flavour..
  11. Now add ¼ tsp garam masala, 1 tbsp coriander and 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi..
  12. Finally, serve toor dal with hot rice..
